Default '06 odd shifting problem

I have just got to get this figured out:

Our '06 GT with just 72k has developed an odd, intermidnt shifting problem.

Its AUTOMATIC trans: When the problem occurs we are just driving normally, accelerating normally.

It refuses to shift into 4th gear (overdrive) until we get over 50mph, and when it does shift if feels weird-almost as if its going into 2 gears at once.....

THEN if we let off on the throttle it immediately downshifts to 3rd gear kind of hard......

We have taken it to 2 reputable transmission shops and they can find nothing wrong.....

It the vehicle is shut off then re-started its fine from an hour to two weeks or more before it acts up again......

Any thoughts? its my Wife's vehicle and she is becoming increasingly concerned as to a possible break down.....

Thanks Folks!

Is your engine light on? If so what are the engine trouble codes?

Has the transmission oil and oil filter been changed per the recommended mileage in the owners manual?

When it tries to shift into fourth gear does the rpm go up more than normal as if it is slipping?

We have no check engine lights on-we HAD a problem a while back with the power steering pressure switch which threw a code-I replaced with OEM Mopar switch, reset light, all good.

Transmission fluid AND filter changed properly by ME, all good, pan wasn't very dirty at 60k when I changed it.......

Trans is NOT slipping, it feels like it is going into 4th gear kind of hard and the converted is locking at the same time......

Again, this problem is intermidnt-does not do it all the time.......

Did you use the ATF+4 transmission fluid

You might want to check the electrical connector going to the transmission
to make sure it does not have oil inside.

Check battery cables and grounds , make sure they are clean.

I had a similar issue with mine. Would not shift into OD till I hit 48mph. Smooth shifting though. I changed out the shift solenoid and cleaned up the electrical connection. Its back to its normal behavior. I would start off by cleaning the connections first. They get grimy pretty easily.

Thanks Guys!!

First, Yes, I did use the proper ATF+4 fluid, I am very anal when it comes to using proper fluids..

Second, Can you please tell me where to look at/for the electrical connection that most likely needs cleaning?

Ana where would the shift solenoid be located please?

I think its worth doing both the cleaning and the replacement of the solenoid.

Thanks Very Much Again!!

I'm reading a little now about the shift solenoid.....

Some seem to say get the updated/retrofitted BORG-WARNER unit.....whats the advantage off this??

There is also talk that the problem could be caused by a bad VSS......there is an INPUT VSS, AND an OUTPUT VSS........

These 3 parts are in the same general area and I'm actually thinking strongly about just going in there and replacing all 3 and be done with it.....

OEM stuff will be just over $200 ordered online.......

Tempted to get the B/W Solenoid though.........

Opinions?? Thanks Again!!

.....Seems like a couple of people replied then disappeared......

I am looking towards the BORG-WARNER solenoid......BUT the listing I've found says its NOT campatable with our '06 GT TURBO Cruiser.......

I'm finding the same with the input and output sensors--they seem to be NOT compatable with the 2006 GT TURBO Cruiser........

I think I'm going OEM Chrysler for the sensors........

HERE is the Borg-Warner Solenoid I'm looking at.......says its the upgraded unit......
