Here (from shop manual) are all of the systems that involve the chime.

CHIME/BUZZER DESCRIPTION
The chime module is located within, and serviced with the instrument cluster. The chime system provides the driver with warning chimes for:
Seat Belt
Exterior Lamps ON (Headlights with ignition off)
Key-In Ignition (with door open)
Warning Lamp Announcement (like oil pressure, check your pressure switch)
Turn Signal On
Park Brake
Low Fuel
Door Ajar
Reverse (Diesel and Turbo Only)
Those are all the same chime, correct? I know that the one time I overheated - 3 coolant leaks ago, my initial impulse was to slap my blinker off. I play the radio loud and don't always notice it ticking.

(15 miles-per hour). Vehicles built for markets other than the United States and Canada have a revised distance threshold of 4 kilometers for this feature. The chime will continue until the turn signal input becomes
inactive or until the vehicle speed message indicates that the speed is less than 22 kilometers-per-hour (15 miles-per-hour), whichever occurs first. The hazard warning flashers will not activate this chime feature."

I was sure that I in the past I had left on a turn signal and did not notice it until I was miles down the road, and I was above the speed limit from the above notice that should have tripped a warning indicator. The next time I'm out I will have to try this to see if I get a tone.
Wow rckstein, you sure put in a lot of effort to try to help me out, but in none of the above examples is a double tone indicated. The car is running fine and the last time it was in for service, the diagnostics showed everything within specs. guess I'll not worry about it and enjoy the ride. Thanks for all the input.

Sorry I couldn't be more help, but there has to be a reason that a chime is going off, and it's probably nothing serious since there is no CEL.
The list of alarm gongs is shown in the serviced manuals? I happen to have the set of manuals for my PT. Where would I find the list?

I would suggest doing a diagnosis and testing procedure on each one to see if one of them matches your gong gong.

Seat Belts
Exterior Lamps ON
Key in Ignition
Warning Lamp Annoucement
Turn Signal On
Park Brake
Low Fuel
Door Ajar
