Default Where are the molds for discontinued PT parts?

So many desirable PT accessory parts have been discontinued by their makers.
The Good Hood may be at the top of the list. All fiberglass parts are made in moulds, single or multi-piece, with or without drilling jigs etc to achieve a finished part. When something is discontinued it means that sales do not justify continued large scale production, the molds or any part of them have worn out, or the business/ owner is moving on to other interests.
The molds and jigs are often abandoned at the fiberglass makers facility or tossed behind the garage of the home builder.
Parts made overseas also have molds and fixtures which become abandoned and sooner or later destroyed and materials reused.
Anybody know or care about the good hood stuff?

Make your own.

The hood is small enough that any good fiber glass shop that deals in cars or boats could make a glass hood with some mods and a reasonable price. You would be surprised that it is not in the thousand dollar range but more in the range what they were selling for when available from suppliers.

Many PT Cruiser aftermarket hoods were really all about looks not function anyway! And a few did look pretty good.

Good luck attempting to get companies to sell discontinue product molds plans blueprints or anything else that could be used to manufacture them again.

Nitro PT, I agree. I'd run out of sources from yards for getting metal rear window cutouts from the fat boy Fords and Mercurys from 41 through 48 to frame a piece of art called "Straps". I didn't want to ask anyone to cut up good metal and the prices continually got higher as the word got out that I was paying good money for rusted junk metal.

I solved it by getting the efforts of a local plastics manufacturer on board, and for less than $100 per unit he did me up 20 accurate 41 Ford window shape and surrounds using the vacuum forming method. See pictures of the blank and "Straps"

This is a blank before I cut out the window hole, trim the selvage, install clear acrylic sheet for the window, run a bit of 1/4 chrome trim and 1/8 black rubber trim around the window and frame it up with a Glicee of Straps inside.

Possibly vacuum forming was, or could be used in making real neat PT parts like old time rear windows and radical hoods and bumper covers.
It's all in the volume. One is expensive, 20 are cheap.

It's a thought? Wadaya think?
