Question Front strut problem

On my 2001 PT Cruiser the left strut spring broke just turning and backing out of the garage. The car only has 52000 miles and I bought it new. The front end has gone through 2 tie rod ends and now the left strut assy. The garage I go to replaced both strut assemblies with Monroe heavy duty units then had an alignment. Just wondering if anyone else has had that sudden snapping of a coil spring, seems odd, I've never owned a car that broke a coil spring, this car has always been driven carefully and well maintained. ??? just wondering.

Wow, that one on the right looks just like the one that blew on mine. The only difference I can see is mine still had factory black paint on it and only had 52000 miles. Looks like a material problem. I did have to replace the rear coils on my wife's 97 Escort at 46000 miles and it looked like they just rotted out.

I can say it's not common on the PT. But being a 01. There may hay been some early or late differences in the spring. New modes often have production changes. Just a guess and would not nesasarly be any notation by the manufacture or maker of the spring for them.

I've never had one with a broken coil. I did have an 81 Dodge Ram 1500 van that broke a leaf spring on me, though.
