Cool '02 PT Cruiser rear brakes locked up

Oh, heck...my brakes are locked up after it sat for 4 weeks. This had apparently happened with the previous owner, who assured me just backing up and then going forward, repeatedly, would unlock them. Needless to say it's not worked. They are locked solid either direction. So, unless I want to wear my tires out I need other options. The caliper (driver's side) was replaced recently and he said everything looked good. Thanks!

I am assuming that you have rear disc brakes by your comment about the caliper being replaced.

I had an '83 Imperial that would do that. I'd let it sit over the winter and the calipers would stick when I tried to drive it.

One thing that you could try is to get a medium-sized hammer, and tap on the calipers to try and vibrate them loose. Don't hammer away on them, just get under there and tap in various placed on the calipers (not the discs).

Maybe raise it up on jack stands to get at them, and try rotating the wheels by hand after each few taps.

I hope this helps.

Rear brakes? Did you park it with the emergency brake engaged? If so, that's most likely what the heck is frozen.

No, I don't use my parking brake. Rear only are locked. I'll give the hammer tappingva try. Well, I'll have a friend do it. (Recovering from surgery).

Are both rear brakes locked or just one side?
