Default Engine shaking normal?

Why does these cars seem to vibrate at idle In gear or is it just me? I've replaced upper and lower engine mounts they looked weak and were on the weak side but it still vibrates in gear. Is that just how unrefined these cars are?

Did you follow the alignment procedure per the factory repair manual after replacing the upper and lower torque struts?

+1

Yes. Make sure you have 12 centimeters between the alignment hole and the top mount bolt. Here's a photo of the measurement from my PT:

Ehhhh, I haven't checked mine. If it's NOT lined up, how do you get it there?

Free 01-04 PT cruiser shop manual

Page 1198 of this shop manual indicates 119 mm or 4.700 inches. Look at the image that shows the measurement on fig. 104 and where the measurement is taken from. Be careful as my PT Cruiser used the first shock tower bracket hole for another bracket to hold up another component.

Free 01-04 PT cruiser shop manual

If you go to page 1197 and look under Engine Torque Strut Adjustment it will tell you the step by step on how to adjust the torque struts. Fig 103 on page 1198 shows the proper way to use a floor jack to get the right upward lifting of the engine. You will need a small size block to get enough clearance to not bind when raising the engine.
