My OBDII won't scan transmission codes, only engine codes. At least I don't think it will.

Ok, it worked. Apparently, you must hold the brake to get codes.
Anyways, I got three codes. 0700, 0517 and 0118. |

Ok I changed the fluid and filter. I cleared the codes and took it for a ride. It drives fine in first. It shifts into second fine. But when it shifts to third, it just acts like neutral. If you "goose it", it will down shift to second and it will stay there. You rev it to 5 grand and it won't shift to third.
After I stopped, I checked the codes again. The same three codes came back. 0700 which is about the transmission. 0118 which is about coolent temp sensor. (The car is not hot) and 0517 which is not on the list of codes I found on this site. What's up with that? |

That's a new one. Never heard of a battery temp. (Unless it was on an aircraft)

Chuzz, OBD!! Scan Tool will tell you if there is a problem with the transmission with P0700 but it won't give you the specific transmission.

I suggest you take it to transmission repair shop that will give you the specific transmission codes for free. Post what you find out.

There is no "transmission repair shop" in my town. Would regular auto repair be likely to have this tool? How about One of the auto parts stores?

So today I cleaned all connections to the tranny. I replaced the input and output VSSs. I looked for the battery temp sender, but it wasn't there. So I ran a short jumper across the plug.
When I checked the codes after the work, I got 0516. After a short drive, I got 0700 and 0516. Still in limp mode. (Second gear) I found a nearby tranny shop. I'm going to call them tomorrow. |
