Default cranks/no start, engine light but no codes, has fuel/spark, 01 PT 5spd

This is an updated diagnostic of my pt, can't figure it out.

01 PT, 5 speed
scanner is claiming no codes found although engine light is on.
All fuses in cab and engine bay are good
Cranks, but won't start
Battery is good, also swaps in a known good battery work same results,
When first turning on the ignition, engine light stays on, then flashes for 3-5 second, then solid.
Key dance only says DONE
Timing belt is good
Getting fuel, getting spark but won't fire
Can't find any wiring that looks out of place or damaged in any way

I am using the correct grey chipped factory key

Whatam i looking for here guys?
Will the AutoZone rental scanner pull the code that my scanner can't seem to get? I use the torque pro app and Bluetooth scanner. Has always worked good on whatever I'm working on

1- what has changed since you were doing this and getting a code?
Skim bypass questions (01 5 speed PT)

2- do (or did) you get codes doing "the key dance" before?
How to retrieve fault codes.
or did it read "d0nE"?

Unhooked the battery over night, held brake light to totally drain power from system, then made sure to use the grey key to try and start. (Pretty sure I used the black/no chip key the first time giving me the 1685 code)

This time could not get anything from the key check, including no "done"
The first test I did get the 1685 then done.

Both times I could not get the scan tool to connect

Pulled the timing belt cover off, timing is correct and belt looks good. (At least the two cams timing match)

So now I'm leaning towards pcm failure. Since all fuses are good, is there anything else I can inspect or test to be sure it's pcm failure?

you can check the wiring above the axle. sometimes the cam sensor wiring rubs through creating an intermittent short

Copy that. Is that wiring Driver side or pass?

Also cannot pull any codes from the key dance check.

So haven't found any wiring that's been rubbed through or damaged,
Even after battery has been disconnected, still getting an engine light that's solid for 5 seconds, then flashes for 3 seconds. Scanner can't connect to ecu/pcm, and key dance check gives p1684.

Any ideas here?
Could it be thecam sensor?
Timing belt is good and correct
Using correct grey key
Cranks but won't start, all dash lights come on and all fuses are good in cab and engine bay

You say you have fuel and fire. You also need air and compression for an engine to start. Have you checked for compression? And one other stupid question, have you tried unplugging the cam sensor or just using a short spray of starting fluid in the throttle body?
