Default Red Blinking light on dash!

Hello everyone
i have a 2004 pt cruiser
5 speed
which was running great.
a couple months ago i had stopped at a 4 way stop
put the car in gear and it just turned off
at first i thought i had stalled out the car
stop on the side of the road and tried turning it on and nothing
no crank no start
i had it towed to my house and checked it the next day
i saw a red blinking light on the dashboard
i have a grey key
had the computer checked and it was good
i looked online and everything would lead up to the anti theft system
if thats the case
would i have to take it to the dealership?
thanks in advance

Well it is hard to diagnose with such limited information. At first glance the red light points to the anti-theft/immobiliser system. But since you said the car had been previously running and then all of all of a sudden it shut off and would not start. Well the shut down was not due to the immobiliser since the car was already successfully started and running.

You need to check the trouble codes on the car. You can try to do the "key dance" to have the built in check display any codes in the odometer display, but really you should use a real OBD2 code reader to see which, if any, codes are displaying.

It could be that the ECU failed, but it is not possible to say that for sure without some diagnostics. Check the codes and go from there.

thats why i took the computer to be checked

You are not getting any power out of the OBD2 connector? Yup, you definitely need to check all of your fuses and relays in both boxes; under the hood and inside the car.

Have you tried the 'key dance' method of checking the codes?

In the manual:
"During normal operation, the Theft Alarm / Immobilizer Light will come on for three (3) seconds immediately after the ignition switch is turned on for a bulb check. Afterwords, if the bulb remains on, this indicates a problem with the electronics. If the bulb begins to flash after the bulb check, this indicates that an invalid key has been used to start the vehicle. Both of these conditions will result in the engine being shut off after two (2) seconds of running. Keep in mind that a key which has not been programmed is also considered an invalid key even if it is cut to fit the ignition lock cylinder for that vehicle.

Has there been any work done to the PT Cruiser lately?

Does this PT Cruiser have an aftermarket alarm?

Have you tried a different key? What color is the key?

I would suggest checking all fuses in the system. The PCM might not have voltage going to it.

No power.
I'll start checking fuses/relays.
No I haven't tried that yet.

Yes, the light flashes then stays solid.
The last thing i did to the cruise was change the spark plugs.
I also changed the ignition coil.
No aftermarket alarm.
Its the Grey Key. Ive tried using the spare key and it doesnt work either. But both of the keys aren't the original. They both look like copies.
