Default 2006 PT Cruiser A/C and Fan Maybe Problem

I found out the other day the pt cruiser I bought doesn't have any a/c along with the battery light coming on. I took it to one mechanic and they said that I need a compressor and some other items.

Mechanic stated that the high side was 400 and the low side was higher than 100, I believe. So he said the compressor was being bypassed causing my engine to shake really bad when the ac is turned on. Instead of trying to find out if one is bad or ect. I need to replace it all which makes no sense to me. It would cost more than 1,000. To me a mechanic should be able to narrow down what is the bad part and replace it.

Then I took it to pep boys and they tell me that my fan is bad. I had my fan checked before and a sensor was replaced. I'm not sure who to believe because I turned on the ac and I heard the fan running. I can't be without air

A/C Info:
Hear fan running when I turn on a/c
Just blows hot air
I hear compressor click
Both places said Freon is good

The 100 on the low side with the compressor running is high I believe and could be caused by the fan startiing to fail. In other words, your fan may be running but not as it should be.
Please tell us the mileage and engine, type, Turbo or not turbo. Is your car overheating in traffic( avoid over heating the engine or you could run into major $$$).
IF the temperature gauge EVER goes past half way to hot, you have a problem.

Is your engine light on? If so what is the engine trouble codes?

I agree with JoeX. When was the last time the radiator fan was replaced? I even keep a spare radiator fan in my garage in case I need it immediately. You never want to have a radiator fan completely fail on you. The consequences is too expensive.

Its a non turbo. Its usually in between hot and cold. I bought the car last year. It has 100,000 miles.

I found out my fan was working when I took it to another mechanic. Also, there was a leak in a hose that this mechanic found and the other 3 or 4 mechanics wasn't able to locate. My latest problem is that the car shakes really really bad when I turn the air conditioner on. This mechanic said I need to do a throttle clean which would help the shaking. Is this true?

I thought maybe the fan could be the problem why the engine shakes so much. I was thinking the low speed on the fan wasn't working but the mechanic told me that non turbo pt cruisers don't have 2 speed fans so that is not my problem why it is shaking so bad.

If the fan is not working correctly and engine shakes with air on its because pressure in AC system goes up causing a heavier load on engine.. shake- shake -shake
