Question 2001 PT Cruiser one owner with 17,657 miles.

I have a 2001 cruiser in mint condition with 17,657 miles on it. It's the patriot blue (believe that's the color name) custom order car from the auto show. One of the first batches to be made. It's got power windows, manual locks, auto, non turbo, I'm not sure what else. It was passed down to me by my grand father. Im not sure what it's worth? Dealer didn't offer me much but id rather only sell it to someone who appreciates the car and wants to take care of it like my grandfather did. What's something like this worth to a collector of PT cruisers. Any input would be awsome! I appreciate any info I can get on the car and scene. I'm a truck guy myself so this isn't one of my better subjects. Thanks guys!

More information is needed before the question can be answered.

Has anything been replaced? timing belt? all the hoses under the hood? Tires? etc.

Only saving grace on your pt is the millage, not even so much the year...
Here in vegas pts in excellent condition and low miles always start around 4900.00 on Craigslist and then you watch them drop to around 3500.00 before you see them disappear from listings.

So our area seem to be like this.

Excellent 3500.00 to 4000.00.
Great 3000.00 to 3500.00
Good 2000.00 to 3000.00
Fair 1000.00 to 2000.00
Poor ends up as a parts car.

I went to see this guys car last week because I am still in the market for a pt for my kid..

Car looks great in and out, pictures usually lie but his is clean.. he started his listing price out as " 2500.00 very negotiable " it was at 1800.00 when I saw it and passed, and is currently at 1600.00... I bet it will be 1200.00 before it sales, theres 200k + miles on it.

I would love to buy your car for my kid.. probably garage kept looks perfect super low miles, but I personally wouldn't pay more then 3000.00 for it cause I know I'd have to change the timing belt first thing due to its age, and the insurance for the pt if it was in a wreck would pay only THE BOOK VALUE OF YOUR CAR 3685.00 based on Edmund appraisal.

If I was you I would try and start at around 5500.00 to 5900.00 it will be a cat and mouse game but you may sell it for that after a couple months when the right person comes along with cash, A bank wont give a loan for that amount so it will have to be someone that just loves the car.. or you can let them make payments.

if you want it gone soon.. start at 4500.00 to 4900.00
if you want it gone fast.. start at 3500.00 to 3900.00
if you want it gone near instantly list it for 3000.00 to 3500.00 and someone will buy it that day I bet.

Personally id love to have the car for my kid cause of the millage.. and I almost had one in a similar condition 3 weeks ago for 2500.00 - 41k miles, but another guy got there faster

Just my 2 cents.

Realistic if it looks new. With the milage and asume it has air. If it a popular car in your area. $3500 would be a big price if you could get it. JMHO

But it is a 15 year old car.

Will need:

$400 Timing Belt
$650 4 New Tires (plus spare may need work)
$ ? Auto transmission flush
$ ? Radiator flush
$150 new head unit (not required of course, but who wants a radio / tape deck?)
$75 (?) spark plugs / wires
$100 battery (assuming the current one is old)

Plus no mention of leather or sunroof, so this is whatever the base edition was called.

But such low miles...

If I were selling it I would put it on Craigslist for $4,500, be sure to put in headline "17,000 actual miles". See if there are any bites. Be happy if you can sell it for $3,500.
