Default One Irritation After Another

Well, got the bubbling in the overflow fixed with a new t-stat and radiator cap and now another problem has come up. The frigging display on my radio and overhead compass and temp are no longer lighting up. The radio still works, but it doesn't display the station or the time on the clock. Cassette player and cd player also still work. Suggestions? This thing is taking up too much of my time as I DO have other things to do around the house that I'm now putting on hold to fix the PT. I'll check the fuses in a few minutes, but don't think it's one of those because everything else still works.

My blue one does this, on mine it is caused by a worn key and or wear in the ignition switch.. Try pushing your key in deeper when the radio lights go out..

Come to think of it we had a 98 Stratus years ago that did the same thing

That happened to me recently and it ended up that the key was simply not inserted all the way into the cylinder. It was in far enough to start the car and drive, but not deep enough to activate the lights on the radio and compass.

I guess the key is a tad short. I checked fuse #14 and it's good. I even swapped it with #15 for the wipers and both radio and wipers still work. Strange thing is, that I can put it ACC and push on the key and the radio lights up and shows what station it's on. If I start it and push in on the key, it doesn't light up at all. Sooo, I'm guessing the key is just a tad short and I really don't care. At least it all works and the overhead display is back. Can't explain that one, but it doesn't matter either. Car runs good and rides good and has frosty a/c. Good enough for me. Oh, and it has a new battery too! I went to the local Walmart and they had 5 of the $48.88 batteries on the rack! The website shows that NO store in the 1785 square mile county I live in has one, but the manager in automotive told me that every store should have some. They don't sell many of them. No wonder, nobody knows they have them unless they're in the frigging store!

Glad you sorted the bubbling issue. These things do happen. I save all the stuff for the weekends usually. Some good advice here. Free advice. Thank the lordy.
