Default 2007 PT Cruiser electical/bcm problem?

Hello,

Thanks for the tons of wonderful info on this forum. I bought a 2007 limited for my wife as she really wanted a PT cruiser and so far I found it to be a wonderful little car. Very simple to work on. The problem I am facing is definitely of electrical nature.

I bought a new blank key thinking I would be able to program the keyfob to the car using the method described in the manual. I know the actual key part wouldn't work, but I really wanted to start with the remote working. I have a working key and remote so I did the whole holding the unlock for 4-10 seconds, pressing panic and letting go of both all with ignition on and no chime. Also no chime when I leave the lights on or the key in the ignition. Not sure if related, but my power mirrors are dead. Today I took the car in to a place that does program key with the correct chrysler tool and no go - the tool would connect to the ECU, PCM, they were able to sound the horn through it, but could not program the key. From what I understood it could not establish a connection with the immo. What am I looking at replacing/fixing here?

Thank you.

I don't know about programming the key, but for your power windows have you checked the fuses? If not, do that. If the fuse is okay, then pull the switch, turn the key to the start position and check for power at the switch.

Fuses are fine, was the first hting I checked. Power mirrors aren't a priority on the car, I just tossed it in if by any chance there's a shared circuit between them and the security stuff.

Turns out power mirrors not working is not related to the security stuff... the switch was disconnected in the back now what kind of other surprises are waiting for me I don't know.

Yes. So far I spent as much as I spent on the whole car in getting it back to "like new" condition... Though having a car gone over so thoroughly for 3k is something you just don't get out the box. Now to actually determine what's wrong with the chime and to fix HVAC and finish adding lambskin leather accents before the wife comes back stateside and to find one of them gigantic bows to put on it....

The chimes haven't worked in my 2004 since I got it a year and a half ago. I have no idea why or how to fix it. After having the battery die a few times because I forgot to turn the lights out, I wound up getting a battery jumper and just keep it in the car all the time.

In other words, good luck to you solving that!
