Exclamation starts but won't run after repairs

Hey everyone,

I am working on my friend from out of town's 04 automatic cruiser and after finishing repairs it will start fine but idles very low. if you push the accelerator
it will tac up then down and up and down very quickly. after putting it in drive even when giving it gas it dies after rolling a few feet. The initial problem was a leak in the pressure line out of the bottom of the power steering pump. The details of work done are as follows:

-Removed radiator
-removed serpentine belt and power steering pump
-reinstalled pump and new belt
-replaced pressure line (The pressure line going into the rack and pinion
took about 3 hours to break loose. had to remove air box and fuse box, the maf sensor got removed and reinserted a few times)
-replaced battery connection (battery had died and had to be jumped)
-reinstalled and bled radiator, filled with distilled water... planning to flush and put new coolant in)
-started engine, loud sucking noise. found the vacuum line from the brake booster got unhooked, reattached it and noise stopped
-attempted to test drive and found said problem

to me it seems like a vacuum leak issue but i have put everything back together correctly. I doubt it is spark plugs or fuel filter since it was running ok beforehand. any help is greatly appreciated as she has had to call out of work a few days already and needs to get home.
Thanks in advance guys.

If the CEL is on, there has to be a code.

Hmm. The only thing that displays when I run a code check is "done"

I think I'm going to fog the engine bay with carb cleaner and start it from cold to see if it revs. It has to be a vacuum leak somewhere.

The key dance is really useful, but there are times that it doesn't show everything. In my experience, I have never had a CEL without the key dance showing something, but many times the key dance has not shown a code that shows up on the code reader - and I never used a really good reader. I would try to borrow one.

Vacuum leaks are probably a good place to check. I know you have done this, but recheck everything that you did. You went through a bunch of stuff. Pretty easy to damage wiring or vacuum hoses.

Check the MAF and associated wiring. Even though it sounds like a vacuum leak to me too, I'm thinking if it was one that large, you'd be able to hear it. But then again, I'm not a mechanic, so what do I know?

Should we just put that in our signatures?

LOL Key Dance I dig that. I will do a thorough dummy check and use the carb cleaner. If I can't figure it out with the preliminary stuff I'll borrow a reader from a parts store and see where that gets me.
