Default GT half shafts on Touring Edition

Hello all, first post, I have a 2006 Touring Edition and I am hearing clicking while turning. Sounds like new half shafts are in my future. I've heard that the vibrations I feel accelerating through about 20 mph and 50 mph can be cured by using the half shafts from a turbo application. Is there any truth to the claim? Are there any drawbacks to actually doing this? Thanx

All turbo automatic PT's (both GT's and turbo lites) have an intermediate shaft on the right side. This allows both the left and right final CV shafts to be of approximately the same length. Adding these to an NA "might" be possible if you get the right shaft, intermediate shaft and brackets for a turbo PT. But I've never heard of anyone doing this.

I've also never heard of this vibration being a common issue with non-turbo PT's. And the turbo shaft setup is designed to handle additional torque and possibly limit the torque steer problem, not to reduce vibration. On the face of it, I cannot see how adding the turbo CV shaft setup will address your issue.

It's more likely that you just have a bad CV joint or similar issue. If it was me, I'd just fix that issue with quality parts and you should be good to go.

I have to agree with Todd. I've never heard that argument either. Just replace the axles with the recommended ones. Shop at the auto parts store of your choice.

Thank you for the information. I had been led to believe that it was just a simple swap - no mention of an intermediate shaft. The gist of the discussion was that the turbo half shafts were beefier and better balanced than the run of the mill equipment for the normally aspirated cars. I have noticed the vibration I mentioned on other Cruisers, you can feel it through the steering wheel more than anywhere else. However, the others that I've driven had over 100K on the odo so it might be simple wear causing the issue. Thanx

Motor mounts are felt through the wheel. Not sure why but you can feel it. Just another thing to check. Check your tie rods and ball joints as well. Give NitroPT a shout on the axle replacement. He does a lot of customer stuff. He can sugest a brand name he has used. I believe it's sk••• something.

Thanks for your thoughts, I'll check the motor mounts. I'm planning on replacing the lower control arms, with the bushing and ball joint already installed, when I replace the half shafts. How does one give a shout out to NitroPT? I'm a forum newbie. Thanx

Just PM me anytime...

The best NEW axles on the market you can get are from:
DriveTech America, LLC - Home

I have sold dozens and installed several on PT Cruisers including my own. No failure, great customer service, honors all warranty without question fast and courteous.

There are a couple different Intermediate shafts. You must look at the type you have when ordering them to be sure to get the correct one. I do not recommend to just replace the shafts bearing as the procedure may damage the axle. Spend the little extra and get the complete assembly.

For other questions please PM me.
