Question At a lost, really in need of some brain pickin!

Don't know a whole lot about the PTs although my uncle has a 2005 PT cruiser automatic. Non turbo.

They were driving the car to the store one day and out of the blue the car would rev up past 4K before it would then go into gear. It's not a hard shift or anything just simply revs up before it will change to the next gear. It will do this for every gear and only once the car has been driven for a few min.
When you first go to drive the car after it's been sitting it shift perfect. Only once it gets closer to operating temp it seems to do this.

Hoping someone would have a quick idea. I was going to start with a pan service and get a new filter and fluid in there.

2005 PT Cruiser, Non Turbo, AUTO
No Check Engine Light/Codes
* Fluid is a nice pinkish red not brown or tan.
* Fluid smell is nice and sweet not burnt.
* Fluid level when warm is directly below the Hot fluid level line while running.
* Fluid is not foamy, or bubbly

Thanks in advanced!
Own a shop, just simply don't do trans

Welcome to the forum.

Is your engine light on? If so what are the engine trouble codes?

Thanks, found forums to be a big help! No, as stated in my original post there is no check engine light, and no stored or pending codes in the ECU, or TCM.

Do you know if it has ATF+4?

You describe the fluid as sweet smelling and the +4 that I have used (Chrysler specs it for all kinds of things - power steering, manual trans) smells horrific right out of the bottle. I have only owned manual trans cars, but I have heard tons of horror stories about using the wrong tranny fluid in these things.

Good plan.
Use ONLY ATF + 4
Even if it isn't the problem, it's good maintenance.

Anyone have any ideas on what to you look for? I have a feeling this is still going to be an issue even after we service the fluid.

How about tightening the bands and an overhaul? I had a 1983 Imperial that was kind of doing the same thing. It would rev kind of high before engaging the next gear, especially 2nd gear.

I took it to a reputable shop, and for $75 it was as good as new. (1990 time frame)

Yeah, I know it's a totally different tranny, but hey, could be the same problem.
