Default pt won't accept gas

My 2001 won't take gas, it just shuts the pump off. Any ideas how to fix? Thanks

well sounds like a blocked filler tube?? you might have to drop the tank and check the hose and make sure nothing is blocking the fuel path

It depends on how severe it is. Vent problems will often cause the pump to stop prematurely, but if it won't take anything, the fill tube is certainly prime suspect.

Did you make some one mad lately? Did some one shove something down the gas filler neck to get even?
I'd check the tube as far as I could see using a flash light and screw driver to hold the little door open.

It will take some. It takes about 5 min to put in a gallon. Is there a vent of some kind in the tank or is it in the filler? Thanks

Short of removing the filler tube for inspection or replacing the vent tube, both expensive and time consuming, keep in mind visual inspection can only tell you so much. I suggest before doing anything expensive, removing the gas cap, and immediately putting your nose as close to the opening and sniff. If you don't get a full blown nose full of gas fumes but just a smidgen of scent, there truly might be a partial blockage in the fuel filler tube. Vandalism or accidental. If so, a long flexible pick up devise with a claw on the end might grasp the offending blockage and allow extraction. I'd at least try that before the big bucks solutions.

Same thing happened to me 55 years ago. Lost the gas cap, put a rag in the filler tube, took the rag out, put a new cap on, wouldn't take on fuel. A segment of the rag had deteriorated and broken off, blocking the filler tube.

Of course that was also back in my earlier years when my next gallon of gas might come from fuel siphoned from a friends car. A low bucks solution to lack of cash! I could identify any brand of gas by the flavor.!

its not really that hard to drop the tank
kind of matters how full the tank is or how EMPTY
just unbolt it and hold on
check the hoses the important thing then is to make sure you get it back on with out any kinked hoses
