Default 2008 A/C Issues

I'm new to the forum. I have a 2008 PT Cruiser 2.4L non turbo manual transmission. I have what may be two separate issues with the air conditioning. The lesser of the two is a thud from the right blend door when started cold and the a/c is turned on. All vent modes seem to be working fine. The second and more critical is a rattle noise and blow out from the A/C compressor at idle when hot. Now the vehicle has about 85,000 miles and the a/c has never been serviced. When driving the air condition seems to work fine. Does this model have a a/c clutch relay? Or, is it built into the PCM? Perhaps a charge is required? What's your thoughts.

Welcome to the forum. About your problem, it sound like the Radiator/AC condenser fan is not operating on high speed when you are sitting in traffic or at a light.
Make sure the fan running when the AC is on. They last about 100,000 miles or less in your case and be bought at Rockauto.com for about $100.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out and reply back. BTW, what is that blast of smoke coming from the compressor? It has the slight odor of exhaust. I can't get a good view to see exactly where it's coming out.

This was indeed the solution. This also solved a stumbling idle problem. I purchased the replacement for $77.78 from Amazon.com. The dealer wanted $238.00 at resale price.

Your Dealer was cheep, my Dealer wanted $288. not knowing my exact AC problem, I did let the Dealer give me a diagnoses for $125. They told me it was my fan and the part was $288. Out the door would be around $650. I bought the fan from Sunbelt Radiators for $60. (w/free shipping) and installed it myself.
