Default Help with choosing a muffler

Hi all- I am looking to add an additional muffler to my '06 with a Bassani dual exhaust. I know that I will probably have to get under there and hacksaw a chunk out and add something in.

The thing is, I don't know where to cut, do I need to add a heat shield of some sort, and what kind of muffler would be a good fit? Plus, I sure don't want to ruin that beautiful exhaust that the previous owner had installed.

The only experience I have with exhaust systems is cutting out a rotted catalytic converter on my 1979 Dodge Magnum, and replacing it with a "Test Tube".

So ... I leave it to you for advice ....

Thanks in advance.

What is your goal for the sound and power?
What other changes to the stock exhaust were done from the exhaust manifold back? Please be specific.

Well, I'd like it to be as quiet as the standard exhaust while cruising, but have a nice low note when accellerating - if that is possible.

I will have to get under and take a look at what is there. I honestly don't know.

I haven't done this personally but, I have heard that if you add a glass pack upstream from the muffler and tailpipes you have, it will mellow the sound that you have now. This also should not cause a loss of performance.

If you reduce the *exhausts velocity or flow it also reduces the power.

* anything beyond **aprox.12-24 inches from the exhaust manifold. (**every application has variables, nothing is static for empirical data)

OK, I got under there today and took a look. Anyway. The exhaust just goes straight from the CAT back to the muffler, and the second pipe extends from that to the passenger side.

So, I guess I do have to just cut out a section and install a 'glass pack'. But, I know nothing about how to select one or where in the line to install it.
