Default More about the side view mirrors.

I had noticed when I got my '06 (Gen II) that the side view mirrors have 'wind deflectors' in them that my son's '02 (Gen I). So I assumed that the two Gens were different - until I just noticed the other day that the mirrors on my wife's '04 (Gen I) have the same little 'wind deflectors' on them.

Hmm. I wonder when they redesigned them?

To add another variation for you...'01 had mirrors that FOLDING and were HEATED before '02 brought the cheaper non-heated, break-away style you mention on the '02 in your picture.

Yeah, last year I saw a set of folding ones on an '01 in the yard, but decided it was not worth the effort to change them, and that the heat will not work.

I believe (correct me if I am wrong) but on some European models I seem to have read somewhere that the folding mirrors are POWERED.

Power folding sure would be nice! as for the heated/folding, I swapped out my breakaway mirrors for some '01 mirrors because I like to be able to fold them in if need-be, plus if my mirror gets hit, I'd rather it move than real off. Plus...and I have not done this yet...you can get the heated feature to work by just running one wire from each mirror to the rear defrost, just like it was from the factory.

I think that's odd that yours would be flat, like the Gen1, but maybe that's what they used on the export models?

They're easy to swap out. The fold function would be cool even if you didn't hook up the heat feature. You can get replacement mirror glass that doesn't have the "heated" icon on it.

Chrysler went through many shortages of parts during the production of the PT Cruiser and during these shortages pulled parts from anywhere they could find them to complete a daily production run, It is very possible that different the side mirrors could have ended up on many different years and model PT Cruisers then intended?

My wing mirrors are heated and powered on my 02 touring model, i had them open recently to grease the mechanism. i noticed that they dont fold the same one is flat one a little off angle, i think they are not symetrical and guessing this has something to do with the viewing angle from inside the car. the motor doesnt seem the best (not that quiet or smooth) but a little better after i serviced them, but i dont use them much(they are manual via the switch not automatic on locking the car). they can also be folded manually from outside no problem.
