Unhappy Sad , But Time For PT To Go

I have made the decision that our beloved 2006 PT Cruiser is going away.

We need over $1400 of repairs plus the rocker panels are starting to rust out. In that the car is unibody, the rocker panels are critical and would need costly repair. I am guessing we could easily dump $3000 into a 10 year old car that is only valued at $1000.

I have decided on a new Toyota RAV4 LE AWD to replace the PT. I have owned 7 Toyotas in the past and always had good luck with them.

Too bad Chrysler dropped the PT. I would have bought another in a heartbeat.

While I loved the styling of the PT, I can tell you after owning a PT for 14 years and also having 3 Toyotas in the family, the cars are night and day when comparing reliability. Chrysler did so many stupid things on this car in order to save a couple of bucks per car while Toyota did the exact opposite. There is no comparison in reliability between Toyota and Chrysler. Two completely different cultures in the design and production of an automobile.

You will enjoy the Rav4.

I owned several Toyotas over the years and had great service out of all of them, too. Enjoy your new Rav4, you lucky son.......

Sorry to hear you are letting go of your PT. Get ready to be bored with your RAV4. You won't have any need to putz with it because it will be rock solid for many years.

I loved my 05 Toyota Corolla S which was purchased brand new. Racked up 105k without any issues and kept it 100% stock.
Too bad a 06 Corolla full of teens rear ended my Corolla on the highway and totaled it.

You are going to enjoy your RAV4. Good luck!

Toyota parts are more expensive, there's fewer in the salvage yards and they don't break down near as much. Your going to miss having a PT Cruiser to work on.

Well, it's a done deal. A new RAV4 is sitting in our driveway. Very impressive vehicle. The PT was ever faithful and served us well for 10 years, but the repair costs on the immediate horizon far outweighed the actual value of the car. I believe that the PT donated its remaining life in good faith to be applied to the new car. Perhaps it will become another Christine and repair itself. I thought I heard "Bad to the Bone" playing as we were walking away...

I've been driving a Jaguar this week while mine is in the shop, which I now want to buy!!! I miss my PT though - can't wait to get it back home.
