Default My PT Cruiser could star in The Exorcist!

I have a 2003 Turbo. Tonight the air bag light stayed on and the speedometer wouldn't go past 20 even though clearly I was driving faster than that. When I slowed down for stop lights, it did slow below 20 and go to 0 when stopped, but upon moving again, wouldn't budge past 20. The check engine light was on but that's not unusual because its temperamental about my gas cap. Otherwise car seems to be running fine. No weird noises, no gauges overheating, not doing anything unusual. I arrive at my destination, farm where I board my horses, about 15 minutes later and do the check error code thing and I have a ton of them: P0201, P0202, P203, P204, P0480, P0443. While my horses are eating I check some of them on my phone but they don't mean much to me.

I can't get to my mechanic until Saturday so I'm up in the air if I should keep driving it or just stick with my motorbike. I have a GPS that more or less tracks the correct speed so I figure I can take that with me but still worried I might be doing something to the car if I drive it the next 2 days.

Once the horses are done, I head home. This time the air bag light stays off and the speedometer is working normally. Car operates fine.

I still plan to see my mechanic because I figure something must be shorting out somewhere. I don't drive the car that much, I take my bike to work, but the car is more convenient for transporting horse feed and dogs.

Any ideas other than the car's possessed?

I think the obvious clue here is "don't drive the car that much" - the poor thing is STARVED FOR ATTENTION...

I would suggest that your voltage might be fluctuating causing random engine trouble codes. Check to make sure all battery contacts are making good contacts and tight. Reset the engine trouble codes and see if they come back.

If the codes come back I would suggest starting off with having a battery load test done.

Is that a serious statement? Do electrical problems in cars occur from lack of use or battery drain?

The pt is very touchey to battery serges
All Chrysler auto are that way
If battery is older than a year change it cheaper than throwing parts at it

Like Steve said, I'd check out the battery. If it's okay, I'd clear the codes and drive the hell out of it. But that's just me. I'm crazy. Just ask Nitro!

Battery will be 3 years old in November. A month ago it wouldn't start and I had it jumped, took it to my mechanic and they did a load test on it. Battery seems to be fine since then. I do drive it every day. My horses are about a 15 minute drive from where I live so at the minimum I go to the farm, sometimes shopping. I tend to use the motorbike more because its cheaper on gas. If it was the battery, BCAA (equivalent to AAA) installed it and has a 3 year warranty but when they came back to check its holding the charge and all looked good.

Isn't that the definition of throwing parts at it? Getting it tested is free. If it fails replace it. If not, keep looking, though I guess we have learned to be skeptical of these free tests. They are only as good as the tech.

There was a recent through on this instrument cluster problem. According to that thread, the primary cause of this is usually a bad ground to the cluster. The thread showed a couple of ways to fix it as well. If I find it, I'll add the link.

How does the Instrument Cluster effect P0480?
