Default Tape marks on bumpers

I have a 2002 bought new. My curiosity is killing me about some tape marks on the bumpers where they meet the body. After a few years these marks appeared. It looks as though there was tape on them at some time. Does anyone else have these marks? Does anyone know what these are or is it common knowledge and I just missed the boat?

Thanks,
Russell

Every 2001 and 2002 have those. there are quite a few suggestions on how to make them look better. I did mine with black plastidip and they came out looking pretty good. As anything that is painted, there is prep work to be done.

Easiest Cure - Scrub with steel wool sprayed with WD-40.

sanatanadharma, would you elaborate please about why the marks are there. Mine are the basic gray injected molded type bumpers. What do you mean by natural charcoal and varied colors?

Thanks

In Candyman's post he writes "Well, as you know, the sides of the fascia are painted body color in a bake oven. Consequently, the gray part had to be taped off so the sides could be primed and then painted body color."
As I stated in my last post mine are basic gray, not painted "body color" so I don't see the need to tape them off if they're not going to be painted. I guess I'm just over-thinking this.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my post,
russell

The bumper (gray portion) is just one part of the fascia. The gray portion (bumper) was molded that color and was then taped off so that the remainder of the fascia could be painted the body color.

In the above pic, you can see the fascia seam on the front fender, on both sides of the headlight. That is the top of the fascia which then goes down to the bottom of the grille (below the license plate). That is the entire fascia panel of which the bumper (gray portion) is an integral part of the entire molded fascia panel.

Russel, the bumper is more than just the unpainted area on yours. The unpainted part was masked off and the rest painted. Then baked. You can buy the color in spray can for this. I would use adhesion promoter to help with longevity. Scuff with scotch rite and dawn with water to clean for painting.
