That certainly looks bare bones to me!

You can't see the actuator from this view, you've gotta look up in the hole (I know, sounds like a medical procedure), but you can just barely see it from the outside of the vehicle.

This is the latch and lock actuator assembly from inside the door:

You could call your local dealership parts department and using the VIN for your PT, they can give you the part number for the handle/emblem assembly and they should be able to tell you if it includes the touchpad switch.

Yup! Rckstein is correct. It might not be bare bones after you take the inner lower wall panel off or get a scope to see inside. Let us know what you find out. I tried looking at my latch and couldn't see anything with a flashlight from the outside and my PT Cruiser has the touch pad.

I should have read this information below twice so I would have also suggested for you to take a look inside the lower panel wall. You never know if you are getting accurate information or not. Maybe I should not have switched from drinking coffee to tea!

It had never had an electronic lock mechanism fitted on the rear hatch!

There doesn't, in point of fact, seem to be a touchpad under the emblem like I'm used to. There's nothing in there that 'gives' to the touch, at all.

I am going to brave the rain and take a photo of the inside of the hatch, because it looks different (to me, though I never really stared at it hard!) from our old blue Touring edition.

Did you see my pics in post #20? You should be able to see the actuator, wire connector, and wiring from the outside of the vehicle, it's tight, but can be seen.

I could only see the three wires for the door ajar system! I am going to get myself a little probe with lights for dark little areas.

The other is the hatch release system, connected to the touch pad (if equipped).

I have memory of seeing junked 2nd-gens with the one-piece wing lift-handle, but no electrical release (key only).
You can obtain good information just going to the junkyards!
