Default ac question

hello all!!
First post here. just got a 2002 for my son and the compressor isn't coming on.
My question is (before we rip it out) if the low pressure switch is bad should it still click on and off? I charged it up last night no diff. The aux fan works fine
Thx for any help

Welcome to the forum.

Did you check to see if the high speed on the radiator fan comes on automatically when the engine is cold, start the engine, and turn on the A/C? There are two speeds on the radiator fan so you need to make sure both speeds are working. I would suggest checking this out before working on the A/C.

When my low pressure/recycling switch went bad, the compressor would stay on all the time enough to freeze things up and stop the system from blowing cold air into the cabin. If fact I even had a little steam/vapor come into the cabin instead of the cold air.

I don't think that's your problem. Did you use any gauges when you charged it up? Could also have a problem with the high pressure switch that's on the compressor itself.

the fan comes right on
The last owner said that it was working for him. hes a friend of mine
so I do believe him.
I'm gonna check tomorrow, maybe the clutch is staying on like he said his did.
Its so hot out now of coarse. figures that's the only thing really wrong with the car. although, the passenger window doesn't go up all the time. but that it.
1200 not bad at all
