Default Considering an 04 manual, help please?

Hi there. I'm new to this forum, but I've been wanting a PT for a while now. Since I'm in a position to possibly get a new car, I went looking around, and one of the first cars I came across... was a PT Cruiser. So here's what I know:

-2004, assuming base model (no badges other than "PT CRUISER")
-114,375 miles
-Some underbody rust, but nothing looks too horrible
-Rear passenger quarterpanel has rust around wheel arch
-interiour has been recently deep-cleaned
-5 speed

So I've so far gathered that the water pump and timing belt are in need of replacement if they haven't been already. Is there anything from this particular year that needs attention otherwise?

One other question; does anyone here tow a trailer with their PT? I would like to have a hitch installed so I have something to tow my motorcycle on (1981 CB750, for those interested in knowing), but I don't want to tax the vehicle too terribly. The most it'll ever be carrying is that bike or maybe some furniture.

Thank you for all the help!

Welcome to the forum from rain drenched east Texas. YEA, a break from the heat!

I don't have specific info on a 04. I have a 01 auto and it's been great until the belt broke last week at 110,240. I would recommend replacing the belt, water pump and cam and crank seals if possible. If you can't do these repairs yourself, this will cost around $1,200 to $1,600. If you can do it yourself, expect $200 to $250 for parts. Figure this into the cost when buying.

Don't forget to replace the center mount and the belt tensioner when replacing the timing belt and water pump.

The PT can tow about 1000lbs with a class A hitch. That should be plenty for your motorcycle.

Thanks for all the quick feedback, guys! I really hope this one ends up being my next ride. I've got a test drive scheduled for Friday, so keep your fingers crossed for me. In the meantime, here's a crappy phone picture of the vehicle in question.

And you might want to add the idler pulley, crank and cam seals to the list, while the area is torn apart.

Keep you eye on temp gauge, the cooling fans last about 100,000, and bushings in lower control arms, I've replace ty rod ends on a few with a little over 100,000.
Rock auto is good for parts and someone usually has 5% discount code on the forum.
