Default Shouldn't the fan work after stopping the car?

Hi everyone!

My PT Cruiser overheated a few times this Summer (I live in Texas and we had very hot days - I have a 2004 PT Cruiser with 160K miles).

I changed the thermostat and that partially solved it - now my car doesn't overheat while I'm driving.

However, if I stop the car for a few minutes and then start it again (say 5 minutes), the temperature goes very high (about 80%) and then stabilizes very quickly.

That led me to think that maybe the fan isn't working as it should. I had other cars where the fan would work for a few minutes after stopping the car, but I can't hear the fan working after stopping my PT Cruiser.

However, the fan seems to work as expected when I turn on the AC. I can hear the fan running.

Any tips would be much appreciated. Thank you!

My other cars have the fan stay on a minute or two after I turn the engine off, my PT doesn't. As far as that goes, yours is working fine.

+1
That is normal. As long as it drops quickly once you turn it on that is normal.

I would suggest making sure your engine coolant system is sealed. Do a engine coolant pressure test and make sure its holding pressure. Also check the radiator cap.

Thank you so much for your replies! That gave me some piece of mind.

I will follow the suggestion of performing an engine coolant system check to make sure it is sealed and holding pressure. I will also try changing the alternator cap.

I will report back, thank you!

I think you mean radiator cap.

My fans run after I turn off the ignition.

Posted video many times on this forum that you can hear it after engine is shut off. I have an after market fan controller.

My initial thought, as well. The non-aspirated PT has a single, 2 speed fan. One of the speeds is not working.
