Default Yet another keyless entry question

I know that this topic has been covered thoroughly on the forum, but there are so many different threads posted about it, it's too much info to sort through for this simple question.

When I had the dash off today, I saw a unit like this (minus the key fobs):
DSC02942.jpg

Safe to assume that means this 2002 PT Limited Edition came with keyless entry? Do I use the numbers on the box to help me decide what I need to buy to have keyless entry on my PT?

Sorry if this is a repeat question but, like I said, too much info to sort through right now.

Thanks.

You can either Buy fobs and have them programmed to your pt. or just buy what you have pictured here from the Same salvaged vehicle and install in you PT. and your good to go.

That is promising news. I'd likely just buy fobs.

So, next question, how does one have fobs programmed? Do I need any of the info off of the box in the dash?

Also, I only have 1 key for the PT right now, so not sure if that matters regarding programming. I've heard you need 2 keys for programming something or other.

Never mind. Did some research online and seems I can have a locksmith do it.
Thanks!

How much? Might be cheaper to buy it used.

I don't have a specific number. I just read on an ebay auction for a keyless entry fob for my car that it has to be programmed by a locksmith if you don't have 2 working keys. I only have 1 key.

Also, a 2nd key plus the chip will cost me $60, so I figure he won't charge me much more to then program a fob. I'll find out.

The easy way to do this is to just buy a salvage keyless entry module with the fobs already married to it. I think Myckee has some for sale. Or at least he did back on September 1.

Here's a link:

That's good advise, a matched set's the best bet. I'm pretty sure, if my memory serves me, that even that "set" from Myckee might have to be made compatible with a computer reset to have your PT accept them. Most Chrysler shops'll do it for around $40 if you tell 'em you've done the install. It's just a plug in and a deep breath and it's all done. No novacaine needed. I didn't feel a thing!

This is what I did. I installed a new under dash module unit, matching numbers, took it to key shop, they tried but couldn't configure with my old fobs, went to Chrysler shop. $40 later I was pushin' the fob and SOOO BIG's doors were flyin' open again! Even the hatch worked again. I'd also installed a new rear hatch latch handle (that just falls of the tongue)."rear hatch latch handle" and switch assembly.

The Chrysler Shop told me they charge competing shops more, $100, $150, what the market will allow, 'cause they want the install business. They were lenient on the cost when I told 'em I'd put all the stuff in SOOO BIG myself. The local key shop, usually very good, didn't have the correct setting or utility on their computer to configure it.

What usually causes the beginning of failure is a stuck open rear hatch press switch handle. That constant open circuit burns out that side of the module leading to failure. As your is a 2002 it shouldn't have the electric press switch so if module is bad its probably old age.
