Default Will the factory roof rack fit with a sunroof?

I found a PT in the yard Saturday with the rare factory roof rack option and was wondering if it could be retro-fitted to The RATMOBILE which has the factory sunroof.

Anyone know, or have experience transferring a roof rack from one PT to another?

Yes it will fit.

Or at least, I pulled a sunroof mechanism out of a 2001/2002 PT Limited that had a factory roof rack. The rack is held in with 10 mm nuts.

Hi Wingman!

I can second handy's thoughts on this. I've seen them with the sunroof and rack in the yards.

Go for it.

I triple what they said. Go for it!

I have an OEM roof rack I got as a gift last Thansgiving which I install from time to time on my '02 PT Limited which has a sunroof.

Hmmm. The one I saw has the two tracks mounted on the roof.

I may just grab it anyway! Thanks!

Mounted on the roof, as in drilled through?

Mine clamp on to the top of the door openings. You open the door, temporarily remove the weather stripping, clamp on the racks, then re-apply the weather stripping.

Yes, there are five screws that go through the roof on each track. The more I think of it the less I want to be drilling holes in the roof!!

I found my old strap-on racks that I thought I had given away. I think they will work just fine, but no matter how good you strap them down, they do tend to slide a bit and can scratch up the paint.

Where did you get yours? I've never seen that kind. Very cool.

Hell, I wouldn't want to drill through my roof, either. I don't use the racks often enough to want them permanently on the car, anyway.

I got mine from the father of one of my good friends. I joined them for Thanksgiving last year when his dad saw my PT for the first time. He said that he had the same exact one and had just sold it a couple of weeks earlier, but he neglected to give a few items to the new owner and asked if I would want them. Those items were the racks, including the mounting instructions, mounting tool AND the keys, including a spare, to lock and unlock the endcaps on the racks.

He also have me a set of unused snow chains for the PT and a metal die cast PT Cruiser model.

I was very thankful on that Thanksgiving.
