Default Soooooo.... my turbo monster decided to grenade this morning....

So I'm on my way to work, and every time I shift gears, the car would make a loud clunk sound. Just as I pull in the parking lot, stop, and then have to move it again.... so I try to put in gear, no problem, but try and go anywhere? Nope. Clutch engages fine, trans goes into gear fine. But try and move the car, it makes a hideous grinding noise.

The service writer where I work thinks it's one of the axle shafts, but I think it's the clutch. But I don't smell burnt clutch or anything.

NOW I'M GONNA BE WITHOUT A CAR FOR THE WEEKEND RAWR

Has anything been repaired in the last year? I am thinking you might have something loose in the pressure plate assembly such as bolts. Sometimes when repairs are done it is not torqued down and comes loose but without being there its hard to make a good diagnosis.

Just the intake manifold gaskets, plugs, wires, coil and the A/C compressor aside from regular maintenance like oil changes.

Looks like what happened to mine.

Mine's a bit worse though. I'll be fixing it over the winter and in the meantime, driving a 98 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited that's gonna bust my wallet in gas....

Check the intermediate shaft. Once the carrier bearing goes bad it can slip out of the differential and cause an ugly grinding noise.

Wellllll..... now that we have the car apart, here's the extent of the injuries....

There's stringy clutch lining all in the transmission. The flex plate bolts did let go and caused a lot of damage. The right side intermediate shaft splines are ground to nothing. Sooooo...... it's gonna be a long winter of fixing it when I can.

I picked up a 98 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited in the meantime
