Default Strange Hum Sound

My 08/42000 miles Auto Overdrive Cruiser has a distinctive hum coming from front. Starts at 30 mph and gets louder peaking at exactly 60mph then is hardly heard. Tires new, wheels new. Just started 1 week ago and have a trip this weekend before I can have it checked. Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help.....Jerry

Did the hum sound start before the new tires were installed?

Was there any work done just before the humming started?

If the tires are good I would suggest checking to see if one of the wheel bearings might be starting to wear out.

+1 on tires (alignment or tread flaw) and/or front wheel bearings.

You can jack up the front of the PT Cruiser, put it on jack stands, and see if the humming sound is still there. If the humming sound is still there I would suggest checking the wheel bearings.

Thanks for the help Cruiser and Handy
Tires have been on 6 months before the hum started
The hum could replace looking at the tach at 60, I can tell 60 just by the hum
I have jack stands is it best to put them on the chassis running boards, can I get it to 60 on the stands😳

I would suggest being careful and see if you can locate the noise under the PT Cruiser. There has been many suggestions on how to do this but safety should always come first. Post what you find.

Okay. Your PT is a 08 Street Cruiser automatic. It recently had an issue not going into overdrive.

If me, I would try to determine the location of the hum while the car is jacked up. The 08 Street Cruiser isn't a turbo, right? But it may still have the intermediate CV shaft on the passenger side like a turbo. If so, check the carrier bearing on that shaft, that's the most likely cause in my opinion if you have one. If not that shaft bearing, some likely remaining choices are wheel bearing, or the transaxle. I'd check the wheel bearings next and I'd check for heated brakes too.

If the transaxle, it might be the differential, either output bearing where the CV shafts go in, or it could be the tranny pump behind the torque converter. A stopped up tranny filter can cause this too along with several other things.

So try and locate that noise. That will help narrow it down.

This is probably beyond my skill level, if I can't get a prof professional to fix the cruiser by Wednesday would making a 300 mile round trip not advisable. Between a rock and a hard place with this and I thank you for your opinions
