Smile Extra Radiator connections? Power Steering?

2005 PT Cruiser GT Turbo convertible. Radiator had a leak and ordered new one, there was a difference when ordering for the Turbo models, which I ordered luckily. Odd thing is as shown in photo are the two silver connectors on the radiator. Evidently while tracing hoses to these connectors is that they are for power steering. Wow, never heard of such a need to cool the power steering fluid. I have a factory service manual unfortunately it is for 2003, and evidently it doesn't include the turbo or convertible models (got as PDF on CD on eBay), so it doesn't mention these extra connectors. I searched here and didn't find anyone discussing these, so I thought I drop a note.

I ran across these when I had to replace my radiator last year. At first I thought it was transmission related because of the fluid that came out, but after disconnecting them and having the fluid drop in the power steering, I figure out what they were connected to.

I installed a similar radiator in my '02 N/A Limited Edition.
Those two hose nipples are not used on my PT, so I just capped them off.

PS fluid is under a lot of pressure and they creates heat. That's why they need to be cooled. Hot fluid breaks down, thats not good, and If it gets hot enough, it would start to soften and/or melt part of the PS pump.

PS coolers are not a new thing. My 1970 'cuda has one. In that case it is just a little radiator in the line. I posted a picture below. Mine is nowhere near that clean, but that is it. You will notice most cop cars and taxi-cabs have them. I free downloaded a factory service manual for my 2003 and it has the turbo and the lines. My car is a manual transmission, but both the PS and the manual tranny call for ATF+4. Go figure.

I see these connections on my PTs and thank god they decided to use a separate trans cooler below the condenser because the internal connection could not handle the heat and separated on the Neons and mixed Coolant and trans fluid resulting trans problems.

My NA PTs have a small factory power steering cooler on the frame below the rack and pinion.
