Default Opinions or experiences???

I noticed in the yard that the second gen Neons had insulation around their battery. Earlier second gens had the fabric type that fall apart, later ones seem to have what looks like a heavy-duty square of bubble wrap...in either case, the battery is shielded against heat in the engine bay. I don't believe the PT had this, at least mine didn't when I bought it and I haven't seen it in the yards. Should I add this around my battery? Should it help the life-span of the battery? I mean the cramped nature of the engine bay, along with the turbo squeezed in there, seems that the PT, and especially the turbo, would need this more than the Neon. Okayyyy. GO!

The battery in my PT had this battery shield, however, after exchanging a battery at an auto parts store, I was advised by the clerk to not put the shield on the new battery, as it would hold in too much heat, and since I live in Texas, the extra heat could ruin a battery. So I guess it would depend on where you live to use the shield or not.

My car had one. I kept it until it disintegrated. I probably still have the carcass in my Dad's garage somewhere.

So this was the newer one I was referring to. After looking online, it seems the blanket helps keep a more steady temp around the battery in hot AND cold. So I will be putting the one in I got at the yard. It seems they came from the factory this way...probably for a good reason. Thanks for the responses!!!

The blanket is to keep the heat out. The Clerk didn't know what they were doing. cold didn't kill the battery, heat does. In cold conditions it will be helpful in getting the best performance.
