Default Front Door

what is that mechanism called that holds the door open? its attached to the car frame and goes inside the door. mine is clicking when i open and close the door and driving me nuts. i sprayed with wd 40 but no fix.

That thing is called a door check. You might try using some lithium grease on it.

tried that too. i am going take the thing out and see whats going on. just wanted to know in case i have to hunt for a new one. Thanks much

it is common, after time and use that the steel tab welded to the door frame holds a pin. the pin with pressure causes the hole to oval and makes a noise because it's no longer performing its job properly. this is common across automotive manufacturers who use this same design. chalk it down to just poor engineering. compare the mercedes door hinges to chrysler. big differences !
you would have to cut a good tab off from a wreckers car from the passenger side, flip it over and then weld it in place of the old one in the drivers' door.

Doesn't every parts store have some cheap helper bushing to put in the oval-ed hole?

Thanks much. Weather has been horrid around here on the weekends recently, plus yard work so I have not gotten to it. Wow, that thing looks intense.

Nothing is welded on our cruiser doors. Hinges or the door stop. All bolt on.
