Unhappy MYSTERIOUS "LIMP MODE" CAUSE

Hey Guys!
Sorry I've been skipping school lately.
Been working hard to get the new to me Dodge Challenger up to date.
(2011 GWE SRT8)

**But, I've got a lingering problem with a cold tranny staying in limp mode for a few miles after start-up.
This is the Cowboy Cruiser, a 2005 Limited with Turbo Lite.
Tranny is auto.
It started a little over a year ago, and I have had it to the shop 5 times since then, with only short periods of normal operation.
I have triple gauge pods, and the tranny sensor will be sending 65,500 degress + degrees initially...sending the car into limp mode and not going into 3rd gear. (YES! 65,500 + degress!)
Then, after a few miles starts around 10 degrees and works its way up to normal.

They have changed the tranny sensor twice.
Supposedly fixed a connector to the tranny sensor twice. And this is the only fix that lasted a few months.
This last time, they've had the Transmission Computer sent off to Flight Control Systems in PA....but, it's on the way back as testing "OK", no problem with it!

ANYONE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES, OR A FIX THAT WORKED???

As I mentioned in the last thread you had on this issue about checking the wire going to the transmission range sensor but never got a response on that. One owner mentioned having a problem with that wire changing resistance.

Just for grins and giggles, have you tried changing the solenoid pack? I got one at the salvage yard for twenty bucks. I'm not saying that's the problem, but you just never know and it's cheap enough to try. Just make sure the one you take off has clean fluid in it. If it looks brown or burnt, go get another one.

The only time I have had a limp mode appear is when I had improperly connected the green trans connector to the pcm. The pcm and trans were not able to communicate with each other and so it went into limp mode. Unplugging and replugging it fixed my issue.

I haven't read your previous threads about this but maybe there is simply just a bad connection? It is possible that when it is warm and everything heats up, then the connection is okay.

When you say they sent the trans computer to flight systems for checking then you mean the entire pcm?

Yes, this is the case.
So, that's why I am telling them to triple check the connector.

Otherwise, I have had the dash off to paint the dash bezels.
But the connector to the PCM has not been touched.
And, again, this is only an occasional, and cold start issue.

chuzz,
What "solenoid pack"?
The one on the tranny sensor?

This is what I'm talking about, Frank. Three long bolts hold it to the transmission. There's also a short bolt through the middle of the electric plug connector. IIRC, the long bolts take a 10mm socket and the connector bolt is 8mm. If you get one from a salvage yard, you MIGHT want to get a new gasket from the dealer, as mine didn't come off clean and I had to replace the gasket. You might get lucky. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/se...ser&vi=5017914
