Default pipe leak

I have a pipe leak from the radiator to the overflow, and was quoted almost $500 to fix this. Its a small elbow like pipe, and wondered if there would be any other way to fix this, less expensive. Everyday I check my antifreeze level and make sure it is topped off, so don't feel it is a large leak. Would anyone here have any suggestions??? Thanks

First thing you should do is go over to the Welcome new members areas and introduce yourself and your PT Cruiser so we know what year, engine it has in it.

When you speak of this "small elbow like pipe" is it below the radiator cap? If so, it is called the thermostat housing, that is an inexpensive part to replace and fairly easy for most people to put in. It is definitely not a $500 job, you might want to find a new mechanic.

Is the leak in the rubber hose or in the filler neck itself? A rubber hose replacement is easy obviously, but replacing the filler neck housing looks fairly easy too. You just need to get a replacement filler neck (around $13 on ebay), but you should probably also change the thermostat and gasket while you are in there too.

This video is about changing the thermostat, but since you have to remove the filler neck to get to it, this should show you what you need to do to fix your problem.

$500. Sheesh, some people!
