Default Parts order from RAuto

I live just south of Pittsburgh, Pa. My order went form New Jersey to Kentucky to New York and now is headed to Pittsburgh.....

That must be the shortest route

We get a bunch of Rock Auto posts. On one of the forums (maybe Moparts?) there is a post/youtube of instructions to get the lowest price on shipping and speed things up. Apparently how you put your order in can make a significant difference. I haven't looked at it in years but it was helpful.

Every shipping carrier has their own central "hub" depending on what part of the country your in that they send their packages thru regardless of final destination. When you consider the hundreds of thousands of packages going thru each carrier's system daily, it makes the most sense for the path the packages follow, to be sorted in a central location & then dispatched via a specific trail based on zip codes. So while it appears your 1 package is traveling a ridiculous number of miles to get to you, it's just part of the bigger picture.

Even the USPS does this practice of centralized package disbursement. I live in the Buffalo area, so if I mail a letter to downtown Buffalo 10 miles away, that letter travels thru at least 1 local post office, then to Rochester, NY about 65 miles east, only to turn around back to the Buffalo post office to it's primary zip code destination to be finally sorted & delivered. I have sold, shipped & received many items via EBay, etc, that's how I became aware of this shipping package trail. I could bore you with several other examples but will spare whomever has kept reading this post to this point, no need for overkill.

I agree it seems nuts for a package to "travel a 1000 miles" to get to a final physical address only 200 miles away from original ordering point, but in the bigger scheme of things, centralized package distribution is what actually keeps shipping costs at their current "affordable" level.

Just my $.02 from my own experiences. Happy holiday shipping season

Whenever I had an occasion to mail something to my mom in Arkansas, it would take only a couple of days, but if she mailed something to me in the Dallas area, it would usually take 4-5 days.
