Default Trials and Tribulations of Finding a Fender

Most of you know some jerk in a school bus veered into my lane and hit my PT.

I need to replace the front, driver's side fender. As I didn't get much from the insurance company, I'm looking to get one that is in good shape and in the same color as my PT (Silver, PS2) so that I can just bolt it on and go. I know that there will likely be some color difference, but as long as it's close, I'm ok with that, for now.

I searched online at Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market which gives you a listing of all the salvage yards in the country and what they have in stock. No yards in my area have one.

I found one at a yard in New Jersey for $100. It's a one hour drive each way, with a $16.00 - $32.00 dollar toll round trip, depending on which route I take.

The guy at the yard said he had two. When I explained what I was looking for an asked if he could take some time at some point, take a look at them to make sure they are in good shape and call me back at his convenience, his response was "No. I know that they are in good shape, otherwise I wouldn't have them in the yard". I again explained what I was after and added that it's a one hour trip one way plus tolls. He got adamant and again said "No.".

As far as I'm concerned, that is some seriously crappy customer service.

Only junkyard left by me is a fat cranky shirtless old man that has a cigar in his mouth and a revolver on his desk. Won't let you in the yard and wants the money up front.

He must be related to the guy I talked to.

Hey..

First happy holidays!

You might want to check this e-bay seller. He's located in Astoria, Queens.

Maybe you could contact them and arrange a local "pick up" to avoid the $50.00 dollar shipping fee and save some cash.

2001-2010 FITS CHRYSLER PT CRUISER DRIVER SIDE FRONT FENDER | eBay

Also, you might want to call Sambucci Brothers out in Garden City Long Island. Better to call as the search parts on the web page is not up to date. Maybe they have a Cruiser or two laying about the yard. They used to have a yard in College Point Queens as well

Used Auto Parts | Sambucci Brothers

Good luck
Danny

Thanks for the info, Danny. I appreciate it.

The guy on ebay from Astoria is selling a raw fender. I'm looking to buy one that is already painted and ready to install. I can pick up the one in NJ for a total of $140, including gas and tolls. I doubt I can have the $60 ebay fender painted for less than $150, likely more. Good ol' Queens prices.
If you know of a place I can get a better price let me know.

I did call Sambucci today I spoke with Johnny. They're where I picked up the mirror I already replaced.
By the way, my good friend Bob is one of the owner's of Flushing Auto Salvage, if you ever go head that way. Unfortunately, they don't have one.

And Happy Holidays to you, too! Maybe we can hang out one of these days.

I did see these on ebay.

The one in Penn. is 2.5 hours from me. The one I'm picking up in NJ is only 1 hour. I'll be driving with a friend so it will be a fun road trip. Great excuse to get out of the city.

The one in Michigan is a possibility. I'll have to contact them to see how much freight would cost.
