Default Oil leak question

I was traveling home yesterday from my fathers house when my oil light intermittently started flashing. I called my father in a panic asking what to do and he told me to pull over and check the oil, so I did and it didn't even read on the dipstick. Went in and bought a couple quarts and added one. it was back to normal but the light was still on and did not drive it the rest of the night. I had it towed to my regular mechanic to have them check it out Monday. I also noticed a small leak between the middle and passenger side of the car by the firewall (don't know if that could be related or not). I also just switched from a synthetic blend to fully synthetic. Sorry for such a long post but I just want to know what are some of the common areas for oil to leak like this.

I'm not a mechanic, but I'd take a close look at the valve cover and the oil pressure switch. BUT, like I said, I'm NOT a mechanic.

Not sure, but I would not think one quart low would cause the light to come on.

Recently on my 03 the oil light would come on for a second or two at a stop light, but would go out with increased engine rpm. Oil level was perfect so I replaced the oil pressure switch and has been fine since.

Oil leaks detection...best way is to first give the engine bay a good pressure wash. Then see what appears after.

Oil can leak anywhere two parts are joined together that has oil pass there way.

you can get a oil leak detection kit. it consists of a fluorescent dye, a UV flashlight and yellow lens glasses. what you do is completely decrease and clean the engine top and bottom by removing the plastic panels so you have access to the parts.

then you run your car for a while and check it for leaks which should be easy to spot.

Thanks everyone for the input so far! I had my car towed to the shop and I will have them check it from top to bottom. I just switched from a synthetic blend to full synthetic so I don't know if that could be part of it.

Just an update: got it back from the shop today. It was the oil sending unit that went bad from a small oil leak.

That was nice of you to update us about your problem and that it was fixed. Alot of people come here to tell us about their problem and wanting us to help but never bother to report back with an update.
