Default New Cruiser- Odd Issue

I have now owned my 08 Inferno Red PT Cruiser for just under a week now and since buying I know 2 things.. A Tire Pressure Sensor was bad (replaced) and I have a bad passenger lower Motor Mount. (Going to be fixed under a limited Engine and Transmission Warranty from Dealer)

However, What I do not know and do not understand is this......
When I drive in areas that have a speed limit of 55MPH or Higher which is my normal route to work, at 55MPH to 60MPH, The cruiser shakes a little bit. After 60MPH, it drives normally and smooth. The same issue exists on my fathers 05 PT Cruiser. Any ideas what this could be? Could the Bad Motor Mount cause this issue? Or something else?

I would suggest checking your wiring going to your camshaft sensor. If the wiring is good I would check the camshaft sensor.

Might I ask why the camshaft has anything to do with it? Wouldn't the shaking be a suspension issue and not an engine issue?

Does your engine light come on intermittently?

It's possible the tire balance is off but if it was my PT Cruiser I would check the wiring going to the Camshaft sensor and the Camshaft sensor first. It would not take long to check it out before suggesting to take it to a tire shop to have the tire balance checked which might cost a few dollars.

No check engine light at all while the car is running.
Tires are brand new snow tires that were installed last friday. The issue persisted before then with the stock tires that came with the car and even now with the new tires.

I'll have my mechanic check the Camshaft wiring and sensors tomorrow or wednesday.

Before you have your mechanic check your PT Cruiser we could use a little more information.

When was the last time the spark plugs and spark plug wires were replaced? The spark plug wires might be bad arcing to ground, etc.

How many miles on the engine?

No clue on when the spark plugs were replaced, if they ever were. I just bought the car used last wednesday. Mileage on the odometer reads 110,600k. whether that is engine miles idk. pretty sure its the original engine.

If it is the camshaft or engine parts, why am I not feeling the vibration at lower speeds with the engine rpm being the same as when I travel at 55-60MPH? (Engine RPM at that speed is about 2400-2600rpm)

If the spark plug wires look like they are originals I would suggest replacing them. I had a friend who had a 2007 with 93,000 miles on it and the spark plug wires were bad. After replacing the wires no more vibration at high speeds. I had checked the camshaft sensor first before replacing the plug wires. If you are going to have your mechanic replace the plug wires you might as well as replace the spark plugs also at the same time.

Alright. May or may not have time tomorrow morning but I will definitely give that info to my mechanic as that is one of the reasons my fathers PT is going to the mechanic for as well. among other things. Will keep everyone posted and thanks for the info.

Check your tires...you either have 1 out of balance, a broken belt/tread or a bent rim.
