I have an 06 Limited.
Just hit a patch of ice and didn't have time to correct. It doesn't look like there's any exterior damage at all ... even the tire is still full. But the wheel is pushed back into the body. The tow truck guy had a flashlight and looked underneath, says that I've bent the "A Frame". I've looked high and low but can't find anything called an "A Frame" ... what kind of damage am I looking at? Had my PT for 6 years, 60k miles. Just got this thing all fixed up like new a couple months ago ... I'd be sick if it's totaled. Anybody have any experience with this? Last edited by gt4431b; 10 Jan 2017 at 10:45 am. |

Just a couple of things to be aware of when getting your car fixed.
If you have collision coverage on your auto insurance and file an insurance claim, there is a VERY good chance they will total the car. That means they will offer to pay what THEY think it is worth, based upon the year and mileage. Rates and regulations vary from one state to another, and one insurance company to another, but as a general rule, if your damage gets to within about 70% of the value of the car (determined by the insurance company, NOT you) then they will total the car, and offer you a flat settlement. If you want to keep your car, different companies have different policies about selling the car back to the owner after it is totaled. However, BE AWARE that some companies will 'brand' your car title, meaning it will always have a rebuilt or salvage title. This means that your car is almost worthless as a trade-in or to most used car buyers if you try to sell it later. And, the damage claim will eventually show up in national databases such as NCIB or Carfax. I've had personal experience and heard from many owners about dealing with insurance companies after what seems like 'minor' damage. San Antonio had the worst hail storm in its' history last April, and about 15,000 cars were totaled here due to hail damage. Including homes and cars, so far the storm has done $2 BILLION in damge. Some owners have been shocked twice; their 2012-2015 model cars were totaled due to the damage, and then they were shocked again when the insurance company offered ridiculously low offers for their cars. Thanks for all the feedback! I'm a newbie so I don't know if my photos will post ... let's see ...
I tried to get an underbody shot too but unfortunately fibromyalgia arrived right around when I bought this car so I'm not so agile anymore to see what it looks like underneath. Also, I was wrong, this isn't a Touring, it's a Limited. Don't know if that makes any difference. Last edited by gt4431b; 10 Jan 2017 at 10:44 am. |

He either said --- A-ARM or K-FRAME. PTs have two A-ARMs and one K-FRAME.
