Default Recurring radiator fan failures

Fighting a recurring issue with my wife's 2005 cruiser. I've replaced the radiator fan assembly three times. Frequency of failure is increasing. First fan lasted almost a year with the most recent only lasting a few weeks. Either poor fan reliability or something else causing the failures. May try an Oem fan next over another am one from Autozone. Wife is getting good at managing engine temps with the heater when the fan fails...

Are you paying for the new fans? Next time if you pick up a "DORMAN" fan at one of the better known auto stores or Rock Auto, they have a lifetime replacement warranty. That doesn't solve your problem of why they are going bad but at least you won't have to pay for a replacement.

What brand radiator fans are you putting in the PT Cruiser?

Welcome to the forum

Are you getting the bare fan, or fan complete with new relays and wiring harness?

The fans are dorman pn 620-022 from Autozone. Lifetime warranty, so I'm not paying for the replacements.

Are you sure the fan went out & it's not just a blown relay..??

Check the wiring especially your connectors. An intermittent connection will cause arcing between the brushes and commutator which will wear out a brush in no time. There's no way a brushed fans should fail within a couple of weeks. Unfortunately many of the new Doorman fan assemblies don't have plug in relays. The relays are wired in and you can't get to the contacts. If you could get to the contacts, you could easily tell if the brushed have lost contact using a digital multimeter.
