So I'm replacing my door speakers and dash tweeters... It's an '05 GT convertible with the factory disc changer. My question is, do these factory systems have frequency crossovers that only send certain frequency ranges to particular speakers, or do they all get the full range? Reason I ask is because I bought a set of "separates" that have the door mid-driver and separate tweeter and the crossover box. I used these for years in competition stereos, but I had fully adjustable crossover units coming of the full range rca jacks on the head unit, so I was able to send what I wanted where. If these factory systems already split the frequencies, then I would just replace the speakers. If these systems send full range to every speaker, then I'll need to run the factory lead for the door speaker to the crossover box, then to the individual speakers.
Also, does anyone happen to know for certain which color wires in the factory speaker harness are +/-?

Yep, here you go. Left front + is Lt G/violet, Left front - IS lt gr/Dk Gr, Left rear + is Dg/Db, Left rear - is Dg/Or. Right front + is Vt/Dg, right front -Db/Rd, Right Rear + is Gy/Db ad Right Rear - is Gy/Or. Happy wiring. This is all I can tell you. The rest of what you're doing is a mystery to me! I'm not an audiophile.

Unless your PT came with the factory amp, I don't believe you have frequency crossovers. In my 2001 and 2005 PT's, the dash tweeters were just hooked up in parallel with the door speakers.
I don't have experience with the PT factory amp because they seem to be pretty rare. But in similar Mopars from this era that I've messed with, the factory amp does often provided a frequency crossovers for the front tweeters. ![]()

No. It was a fairly eloquent "no" if you don't have a factory amp and a qualified "probably" if you do have the amp. No one else answered this part of the question.
If you would like, maybe you can take our reading comprehension seminar by Skype next time it's offered. I can send you the registration papers. Once you've paid the tuition, you will get a free copy of this book. ![]() ![]()

I Like I said you don't know?
![]() The information I posted gets the answer in all cases. Your responses is generalities and guessing. ![]() Why you do this all the time is on some threads beyond my understanding? ![]() Did you even consider to look at the information I posted? I am sure had you done that you may have changed your answer to include other pages in the FSM to reflect and support your response. 8W-47-1 -8W-47-15 ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Ok... So, many thanks to all who participated. The information provided (after I took the time to actually read the factory service manual) does provide which wires are +/-... however, the question remains, are all the speakers getting full range audio? The "premium" systems show designated wiring for each speaker, as if they are frequency specific, and the base option does not. The question now is, do I have the premium system? Are there any obvious indicators or differences in appearance? Where would the amps be? Are there designated fuse block locations that would be strictly for the amps if they are present? If I can be sure that it is the premium system, I can assume the speaker locations are frequency specific, and if the tweeters have a capacitor on them, then I'll need to use them on the new speakers as well. The other option is to replace the head unit and eliminate the unknown, but with all my other projects on this car, I was hoping to avoid that for now...

Maybe run your VIN through one of the VIN detector forums and see what it pulls up? I THINK it would show if your vehicle came with the premium sound system package.
