Default Value?

So my mom has an '04 (original owner) with a blown motor and we are trying to figure if it is worth putting another motor in it. It has over 200k miles but everything works. All electric chairs, windows, radio, sunroof etc work; ac and heater work; it has newer tires; transmission is good; never been wrecked; she loves the car and it has sentimental value but but that value doesn't equal monetary value. We have a qoute for $2600 for a newer motor with a 6 month warranty. My only issue is the car even when running isn't worth half that. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm sure other members will agree that it is very hard to give a yes or no answer to these kinds of questions. It depends on how much sentimentality means to you and what you are willing to do to keep it, which varies from person to person. If it were me, I would junk and use that money for a down payment on another car because of the seriousness of the issue you need fixed.

Where I live (great sovereign state of Arkansas), a 2004 PT Cruiser in good running condition with over 200,000 miles on it is worth about $1,200. There is likely no reason to spend any money on a new engine.

A better choice is to take that $2600 and buy another nice clean PT Cruiser with a lot less miles on it. If you do, try to find one that's already had the timing belt changed if near or over $100,000 miles.

PS: If you do this, just take anything valuable or that you might use on your new PT (tires, wheels, seats, etc. ) out of the old PT and call a salvage yard to come get it.

I agree guys. I am trying to convince my mom to sell it, may not get much but atleast it's one less headache, and actually she lives in Arkansas also. I just don't see the reasoning in putting that much money into something not worth the value. Even after putting over $2k in it, it would still be worth only a little over a grand.
