Unhappy Bad news,sadly

This is not a tech support or anything of the sort thread. It is a grief thread,so Im putting it up in the General discussion.

Gentlemen, bad luck has befallen me.Today some couple hundred pounds of snow along with big ice chunks fell directly onto the roof of my majestic Limited edition 2.2 Turbodiesel.

I had it parked in a bad spot, knowing its a bad spot, especially this time of the year, where snow becomes slippery and falls off the roof in chunks.I was just careless at the time and I guess the universe accepted the challenge I threw in its face.

So there I am playing Counter Strike and all of a sudden I hear this loud noise outside, and after a couple seconds I realized exactly what it was.

I ran outside prepared to see the worst, but at least, the story is not completely shitty, and the damage is not severe.Snow hit the roof dead center, like someone called a coordinate fire mission on there. The roof is an inch or so dented in and the front windshield has a single thin crack line running from top to bottom. It will need to be replaced. All the other windows are fine, they wind up and down, the side beams of the roof are fine, everything on the car is fine, the suspention is not caved in.

What bothers me is how much they will suck out of my pockets to get the roof back to its normal shape.I know for a fact Insurance WILL pay my windshield, but they probably wont cover the roof.

You can remove the head liner and push the roof out and minamize the look if your not covered. I could give you a better idea how well if I had some pictures.

Sorry to hear of the accident.

Hopefully if there are no actual dents (creases) in the metal or breaks in the paint where it needs to be repainted, try paintless dent repair. Those techs can do magic as metal, when properly manipulated, what's to go back to its original shape of manufacture, from the bad that has happened to it.

Good luck

There doesn't seem to be any cosmetic paint damage, but it was and still is late,I need to get a good look at it tomorrow.

While running the flashlight of my phone trought the roof I only notice its caved in,but don't see chipped off paint of sings of holes or ruptures in the metal sheet.

Found and ordered the windshield for 110 bucks(local money) and it should be arriving Tuesday.

Now I just have to start pulling strings and ringing phones for the roof and what and who will fix it best.

Since you don't have paint damage, it may be possible to have the dent repaired by a paintless dent removal service. Some of these folks can do amazing work. Others, not so good. It's a real art form. When my Dodge Ram truck was almost new, I turned too tightly in a bank drive-thru and damaged the truck bed outer side against a bollard. Luckily, a paintless dent guy got it so straight, you cannot even tell it ever happened. I was super amazed.

Also, it may not be necessary to remove the head liner. These paintless dent guys use long rods with burnishing balls on the end of them. They can often do their work from a distance. So they sometimes only have to loosen the trim at the corners to get the rods in.

This isn't always an option depending on where the dent is and the skill level of the dent removal guy. But it's worth looking into if the paint is okay.

I hope you get that fixed and it is not a costly repair. Shame when that stuff happens but depending on your coverage they will insure/repair it. Best of luck to ya.
