Default Changing a passenger side mirror: replacement or no?

New member to the site; glad I found you. I have an '07 Touring Edition whose passenger side mirror has become loose/not affixed to the base of the car. Wires are all still in tact, but its 'seal' is broken. What started as a small separation cased from impact (outer edge of mirror hitting garage door frame) has become bigger over time. Now, tape keeps it affixed.

I was told by one garage that I need an entirely new part to replace this one. But looking at videos and reading misc. comments, it seems that the side mirror is affixed just by screws inside. Am I missing something? Again, the separation occurred right where the unit is connected to the car...just pulled off. Nothing is cracked or broken, per se.

Appreciate any insights and clarification as to how best to reattached it and if a new part is indeed necessary. Cheers.

I think they attach with screws, but I'm pretty sure something broke. The housing is plastic. It is unlikely that an impact would have loosened the screws. More likely the plastic broke where the screws go into the housing. Most are the same color (black) so you can probably just get a junkyard part. iT is probably a $15-20 part at my local pick-n-pull. Or you can see if yours is not broken really badly and try to glue it up It isn't elegant, but I have used some JB Weld style 2 part epoxy to hold them on with decent success.

Below is a picture for reference. This is driver's side and mine is electric while this one is apparently manual cable remote, but it shows the general idea.

Welcome to the forum

The mounting studs probably got broken or stripped from the plastic mirror housing. On the inside of the door, remove the triangular piece of plastic trim, that will reveal the nuts on the mirror mounting studs. If your mirrors are power, you will need to remove the door panel to disconnect the electrics to the mirror. You may be able to repair the existing mirror with some epoxy on the studs, gluing them back into the housing. If not repairable, there are plenty on Ebay.
