Default Aftermarket Radio questions

I know how to install/replace the stock stereo and what not but I would like to know if anyone has one of these aftermarket radios or something similar to it.

This is the unit I am thinking about getting to put into my PT...

Also, planning on getting a Backup Camera, Dash Cam and Radar. but, don't need help/opinions on those.

Several months ago I looked at a flip-front unit, but I was worried about how the screen, when needing to view it for such things as navigation, that it would block the window switch and center a/c vents, I didn't want to have to keep flipping it up or down to access those.

I installed one of these flip up stereos in my son's Mazda 6 about three years ago. While it did solved the problem of not enough space for a double DIN stereo, it was still in the way of the AC controls. I believe the same would be true for a 1st Gen PT Cruiser. And to a lesser degree, it would block the power window switches on a 2nd Gen.

To me, the best solution is to just bite the bullet and buy a double DIN bezel. Then you can use a reasonably-priced name brand double DIN stereo. While I haven't used it yet, I got one for my 2nd Gen 2007 PT Vert from forum member, XWing777.

There's also these eBay stereos that are direct fit. They have them for 1st and 2nd Gen PT's. The problem with these is that they are fairly expensive for a no-name stereo head. Here' the 2nd Gen style:

In my opinion, the blocking of the window switches dont bother me that much. Seeing as I never really open or close the windows. the only one id be using is the driver front if I were but I will look into the Double Din Bezel and check all the options.

Thanks for the input.

i used to have a flip out screen in my ol mustang.. it would block the heater controls just like it would on the pt.. having to fold the screen down to access the controls got old.. maybe its just me but it sucks..

I tried one of these, the only one I could find on Amazon or Ebay that shipped from the US, all others were from China, and if you don't like it, you have to pay return shipping fees to China, which could end up being close to the price you paid for the unit.

The one I bought wouldn't hook up right for the sub-woofer to work, even though the seller said it would, and I wasn't cutting and splicing the wires to maybe make it work. I ended up shipping it back and the seller covered the fees.

I liked the fit though because you can use the stock bezel, and don't have to modify the radio support shelf. With a doulbe-din unit, you have to get a different bezel, and in some cases you have to modify the support shelf. I worry about the weight of the stereo hanging off the brackets you install on the bezel.

And that is the main reason I havent bought that one just yet. It's a no-name brand that I or anyone I know has heard of and it ships from China. I have no issue with it being from China but I prefer to buy things from the US. Maybe I would consider that if I could find a US seller. I dont know.
Also with that, My PT has no subwoofer and don't plan on getting one so I wouldn't have an issue with that.

And it fits with no problem or any aftermarket Bezels or anything? Well, except wiring kit and what not.

It shows that it is a 2 Din Radio. Thought the PT's are 1.5 Din?

It fits the stock bezel and no modification needed to the radio support shelf.
