Default Saving you PT from door dings. A how to for LOW COST MAGNETIC DOOR GUARDS

I think these MAGNETIC DOOR GUARD NOODLES are why SOOO BIG has never had a door ding. Having put so much time and money in his paint job I value having these little buggers to protect that paint job.

I've seen similar door protector that cost well over $100.00 but aren't any more efficient. I lost two from the first set I made on the I95 interstate on ramp at 25 MPH when I forgot I had them on after returning from an exciting junk yard run. I don't know where one went but the other stuck to a truck grill following me. I imaging it probably stuck to that truck grill till the next rest stop. It was still there when he passed me at 65 mph. My loss was worth it to know how well they hang on and because my first set was pink!

You can see the remaining pink ones during a 26MPH wind when hurricane Mathew was at it's worse in Ocala. One blew off, one held. As mentioned, I lost the other two on the interstate.

This second set was made from the larger diameter noodle and I was able to get a choice of colors. No more pinkuns.

$2.00 apiece for two 50" noodles. $1.50 each for twelve 1" X 2" two hole magnets. and $3.95 for a bottle of Gorilla glue. $26.00 for door ding protection on both sides that's saved SOOO BIG from many a parking lot encounter.

You simply establish a straight center line on the length of the noodle with some masking tape so all the magnets line up, make a razor cut to the size plus 1/16" all around and the depth of the magnet plus the thickness of the cover panel. Start the cut by establishing the rectangular shape then skin off a thin (less than 1/8") cover panel. If you want 25MPH door guards, the thinner the cover panel is the more efficient the magnet will be. Too thick and the magnets just wont hold. Angle cut the bottom out from both sides in little cuts and bites picking out the selvage with a needle nose pliers till you get the to the depth of the magnet plus the thin cover panel.

Cut three pockets per length 2" in from each end and one in the middle.

The thin cover panel when glued in place seals the magnet in the pocket so it wont rust, and protect the car paint from any scrape of the magnets.

I used the two hole magnets 'cause that what the hardware store had but in retrospect the holes make 'em lighter without loosing any pull and the Gorilla Glue expands right into the holes.

One pocket at a time, apply a thin coat of Gorilla Glue on the sides and bottom. Sparingly spread a like amount on the underside of the cover panel. Dip the magnet in water and put it in the pocket. Quickly spritz a bit of curing water into the pocket and onto the back of the cover panel. Quickly position the cover panel accurately. You have just a few seconds before expansion and curing start. Quickly wrap the seams tightly with masking tape. It's better and faster if you pre-cut the masking tape to length. Then It's just tape, tape tape till the seams are tightly sealed for the curing. It's a one to two hour wait for the Gorilla Glue to foam up, expand and cure.

If you've wrapped it tight enough on the seams, when it's unwrapped you should be good to go. If you used too much glue or to little water it'll either be a mess or need more re-gluing and water.

Let us know how your noodle door guards work out and if you can beat SOOO BIG's 25MPH door guard record! A most worth while goal!

You're not worried about someone stealing them? Over here in Polk County, if you went to the Walmart and put them on, odds are pretty good that when you came out, they'd be gone.

Not really Chuzz. No ones ever stolen one or ever even done anything but respect that I'm only trying to protect my car within the confines of a parking space. I find it a much better approach to the door ding challenge than a road hog Corvette owner who takes up two parking spaces 'cause their car is untouchable. That's just askin' for a keyin' from some disgruntled driver who wants that other parking place. Have faith in your fellow man and the power and good will of the noodle!

You obviously don't know about the crime rate in Polk County, Price. Every time I turn on the news, there's something about Polk County. Does the name Grady Judd sound familiar to you? He's the Sheriff here and is on the news about as much as Trump!

Tune in the Volusa County, Daytona and Ormond Beach News. Because of high unemployment, underemployment and an unskilled segment of the labor force leading to the low first echelon wage rate of this area, crime is on the rise.

Education, community attitude, our tourism, cleaning out the fat cats that have been running our local and county government since the '70's and having a great police presence constantly addressing and resolving are helping. Additionally, the police are respected in our county.

I agree, and it's something to be thankful for, I can't claim that our county can hold a candle to yours as far as the crime rate. You win hands down!

This is a bit off topic, but here's some pages from the latest Florida Gun exchange for Smith and Wessons for your edification and protection! Good luck. Keep your powder dry and your head down!

Rob, that may not be the epitome of a door ding protector but it is truly the last word as a deterrent. The only things missing are a hypodermic needle and an enema nozzle. Could you photo shop that in?

A bit off subject but here's some references

Some of us have used a similar idea for years. We attach a nylon rope and hang them from the window.
While neither idea is perfect, the best way I find anymore is to pakt in such a way taking up 2 spaces in a large the parking lot far enough away to make it next to impossible for anyone to use the spacing and put my place card up.
The placecard combined with all my gun stickers tends to have most think twice about "Fricken" with my ride or even parking close to me.

I was actually just tryin' to see if I've set a MPH world record for magnetic door guard adhesion! I might have to notify the Guiness World Record Society! ! !

Here's a photo of my neighbor's new noodle door ding guard. I think it might stay on at 30MPH. One per side. I made it much longer than my double set 'cause it's a two door.
I skinned down the protective magnet cover panels on this'n to 1/16" to give it maximum magnetic adhesion. Allowing for the expansion and drying time of the Gorilla Glue it didn't take three hours to construct.
