Default Locks gone MAD!

Hi, I am a new user to this forum. I use a similar one for my Jeep and it is amazingly helpful.

We have a 2004 Touring Edition PT Cruiser. several years the locks started acting crazy, locking and unlocking by themselves. It was pretty intermittent at the time. Since then remote key entry has stopped working (yes we replaced the battery) and the locking/unlocking has gotten worse. It's to the point where I think it is causing enough of a drain on the battery to cause it to not be able to start (several times in the last couple of weeks I have had to jump start it). So today I pulled the fuse to at least disable the auto-locks. The positive battery terminal did have a fair amount of corrosion so I cleaned that as well. I would like to fix this permanently though. I do not notice any loose or missing grounds, but not sure where all might exist. I have heard this is known issue but I have not seen where anyone has posted a solution.

This car is stock, no after-market mods at all. 86k miles.

Suggestions? I did do a search, but if there are threads that have solutions please point me to them.

Thanks!

to add to the mystery - today my wife mentioned she saw the interior lights come on for awhile last night, then go off. This is new, AFAIK. So of course the battery was dead again this morning (and of course it snowed over-night).

Battery was new in 2/16. Alternator registers 14v.

I pulled the fuse for the RKE/Door Locks (fuse 3 in the kick panel). I don't want to lose the dome lights as the doors open. Not sure where to look next.

Actually, there's a "twist knob" on the Multi-Function Switch that brightens and dims the lights on the dash BUT if you twist that knob all the way to bright, the interior lights come on. That problem might be related to the MFS too.

I checked that this morning and I do not THINK they were turned on - but it was cold, I was cranky and running late for work. If they are turned on like that will they turn off automatically? She did recently do some dash cleaning/dusting.......

thanks,

Not sure. Just went in the garage and twisted the knob till the lights came on and left them that way. I'll check back in 5 minutes to see if they went off by themselves.

The interior lights stayed on for 9 minutes, until I twisted the knob back off. That's way past the automatic timer that turns them off so I'm sure they will stay on till the battery dies if that twist knob is turned.
