Default Power steering

Been reading many posts about the power steering as cannot work on the car because of 30 inches of snow! (I did manage to take out the air box and do the 3inch plumbing pipe cai)
I read many posts about the screen in the reservoir getting blocked and I think it has happened to mine. Anyone thought of punching I hole in it and adding an inline filter? Would that be crazy? If I did where would I put the filter underneath?

Default Re: Power steering

Mine was making what sounded like a low fluid sucking noise. All I did was remove the reservoir and spray clean the screen, add the correct fluid and flush--- no more noise.
FLUSH:
You can add a plug or cut a piece of new hose and keep it higher than the reservoir, the Large hose from reservoir feeds the pump, connect it
add a piece of flexible copper to the smaller return line from the rack and clamp it with a hose clamp directing it to a container for old flushed power steering fluid. Fill the reservoir and start engine and old fluid will go into the container. Keep the reservoir full and run at least a quart through the power steering pump-and rack. Shut motor down- remove copper waste fluid return line reattach rak return line to reservoir...

Rack and pinion probably has close tolerance and seals, screen was put there for a reason to keep out dirt.
